RIP JETHRO: On Friday, New York Islanders legend and Hockey Hall of Famer Clark Gillies lost his battle with cancer, passing away at the age of 67. The fearsome power forward was a key component of the Islanders' dynasty in the 1980s, winning four Stanley Cups. Known as "Jethro" over his 14-year career, Gillies remained a pillar of the Long Island community long after retirement and had his #9 retired by the club in 1996.

WEEKEND WAIVER WIRE: The New York Rangers have placed blueliner Jarred Tinordi on waivers. The 29-year-old has appeared in just seven games since signing with the Blueshirts last summer.

NO PLACE FOR RACISM: The ECHL indefinitely suspended Jackson Icemen defenseman Jacob Panetta on Sunday after he allegedly made a racist gesture towards Carolina Stingrays d-man Jordan Subban. Panetta was later released by the Icemen.

ZEGRAS BREAKS AWAY TO VEGAS: The Anaheim Ducks rookie will join teammates Troy Terry and John Gibson at the 2022 NHL All-Star Weekend. He announced he will compete in the Breakaway Challenge, which was discontinued after the 2016 All-Star Weekend. 

By The Numbers - Bruce Boudreau

On Sunday night, Vancouver Canucks head coach Bruce Boudreau coached his 1,000th game in the National Hockey League. His team was unable to beat goaltender Ville Husso and fell to the St. Louis Blues by a score of 3-1. The 67-year-old Toronto native became the 29th coach to reach the 1,000-game mark in the NHL. Let's look deeper into some numbers surrounding Boudreau's first 1,000 games.

577-306-117 - Boudreau's record through 1,000 games as a head coach in the NHL. He has also coached 90 postseason games, winning 43 and losing 47.

14 - Seasons Boudreau has been a head coach in the NHL. He took over as interim coach of the Washington Capitals in 2007 and stayed at the helm until 2011. He then coached the Anaheim Ducks from 2011-2016 and the Minnesota Wild from 2016-2020. He was hired by the Canucks on Dec. 5, 2021.

10 - The number of seasons Boudreau has led a team to the playoffs. In eight of those seasons, his team won the division, and in one season (2009-10 in Washington), his team won the Presidents' Trophy.

Player Spotlight - Seth Jones

Frank Seravalli recently reported that there are only three players that the Chicago Blackhawks deem untouchable at the trade deadline and, to no surprise, they are Patrick Kane, Jonathan Toews and the newly acquired Seth Jones.

The Blackhawks received the 6-foot-4 defenseman via trade with the Columbus Blue Jackets and signed him to an eight-year, $76 million contract extension. Jones is currently third on the team with 26 points. Fans know plenty about what the 27-year-old brings to the ice, but what about his life outside of hockey? Let's check in.

Best Trades (No, Not Those Trades)

With about two months to go before the March 21 NHL trade deadline, the wheeling and dealing has already gotten underway, although perhaps not in the way you think. On Thursday night during warm-ups in Pittsburgh, Ottawa Senators forward Tim Stützle took one enterprising young fan up on an offer of Haribo candies for a hockey stick.

The fan, bearing a sign written in German, got the stick he sought out and the recently-turned 20-year-old winger wound up scoring some gummies...win-win! The candy-for-stick exchange brings to mind some other pregame deals over the years:

Hockey Stick for Sister

You've got to respect someone who follows through on a deal. One young Colorado Avalanche fan requested a stick from defenseman Erik Johnson, offering up his sister in return. Not only did he get a signed stick, but he showed up at the next game with a sign that read "A Trade is a Trade" and an arrow pointing to his compensation...I mean, sister.

Puck for Tic Tacs

If we're being honest, a pack of Tic Tacs probably isn't worth a hockey stick, but Winnipeg Jets forward Nikolaj Ehlers didn't mind offering up a puck for the popular mints. And hey, he even got to select his chosen flavor!

Puck for Girl Scout Thin Mints

Perhaps Ehlers should have held out for more. Within weeks of one another in early 2020, both then-Anaheim Ducks goalie Ryan Miller and then-Detroit Red Wing Luke Glendenning both turned a puck into a box of the Girl Scouts' famous Thin Mints. As Glendenning put it, "I'll make that deal every day. I love Girl Scout cookies.” Us too, Luke.

Puck for Plush Doughnut

One young fan certainly did his homework before earning himself a puck from Washington Capitals veteran T.J. Oshie. Clearly knowing Oshie's tradition of getting doughnuts from his daughter after scoring goals and the forward's past stint as a Dunkin' Donuts spokesperson, the fan brought a plush version of the circular treat, which the 35-year-old gladly accepted.
